Diagnostic Cystoscopic Findings: A Primer for Urogynecology
INTRODUCTION: Cystoscopy is a pivotal diagnostic and therapeutic tool in urogynecology, with applications ranging from the evaluation of genitourinary tract injuries during pelvic surgeries to the assessment of various urogynecological conditions. Its intraoperative use, particularly during pelvic surgeries, is useful for early detection and management of injuries. Mastery of cystoscopic techniques and the ability to interpret both anticipated and incidental findings are critical to effective patient care. OBJECTIVE: This educational video aims to provide an overview of common cystoscopic findings in urogynecology. It demonstrates the technique of cystoscopy and highlights key pathological features, offering valuable insights into their diagnosis and management. METHODS: The video begins by showcasing normal cystoscopy findings, offering a baseline for comparison. It then transitions into a series of cases, each illustrating different cystoscopic findings, including common and complex conditions encountered in urogynecology. RESULTS: Viewers are exposed to a broad spectrum of cystoscopic findings, including structural variations, bladder mucosal abnormalities, foreign bodies, and urethral pathologies. Each condition is accompanied by a discussion of its management, providing practical insights for clinical practice. CONCLUSIONS: Cystoscopy remains a cornerstone in the diagnosis and treatment of various urogynecological disorders. Recognizing both normal and abnormal findings is imperative for accurate diagnosis and timely intervention. This video serves as a valuable resource for clinicians, helping them refine their cystoscopic skills and enhance patient care outcomes in urogynecology.
