Flexible Cystoscopy Simulation Model

INTRODUCTION: Flexible cystoscopy is commonly performed and training models are limited. We aim to provide an instructional video on a low-cost, reproducible model for flexible cystoscopy. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study is to develop a flexible cystoscopy simulation model to enhance trainee comfort and experience with the flexible scope for bladder survey. METHODS: The materials used to create our flexible cystoscopy model included a urine collection hat, sheet of construction paper, two plastics straws, and a 6 ×4-inch sheet of felt. The total cost of the model was $3.55. Construction of the model is demonstrated as well as a side-by-side comparison of a bladder survey in vivo and in the model. RESULTS: Video provided. CONCLUSIONS: This model provides a low-cost teaching model that allows trainees to practice flexible cystoscopy. For future studies, we plan to evaluate the validity of the model.
