Novel design method for a PMSM based on loading separation

This paper presents a novel optimal design method for a SPMSM based on loading separation technique. It is figured out that it is possible to determine the whole geometries and the windings of a SPMSM with only four design variables which are the number of pole pairs, airgap diameter, stack length, and magnet thickness ( p , D g , L stk , and g m ). The proposed method guarantees that the designed motor meets the required performances of output power rating, prevention of PM demagnetization, and the maximum speed operation. Using the proposed method, numerous SPMSMs with the rated power of 5 kW are designed with various combinations of the design variables, and the optimal model maximizing the objective is determined, and is finally verified through FEA.
