Methanol Steam Reforming to Hydrogen-Containing Gas over Supported Platinum-Containing Catalysts

The catalytic properties of supported Pt-containing granular (Pt/Ce 0.75 Zr 0.25 O 2 ) and structured (Pt/Ce 0.75 Zr 0.25 O 2-δ /η-Al 2 O 3 /FeCrAl) catalysts for methanol steam reformong to syngas were studied and compared. Comparative studies prove that the active Pt/Ce 0.75 Zr 0.25 O 2 system in the structured catalyst operates more efficiently than in the granular catalyst. In particular, the structured catalyst 0.15 wt. % Pt/8 wt. % Ce 0.75 Zr 0.25 O 2-δ /6 wt. % η-Al 2 O 3 /FeCrAl at atmospheric pressure, temperature 400 °C, and the reaction mixture (30 vol. % CH 3 OH, 35 vol. % H 2 O, 35 vol. % N 2 ) feed rate of 60 L/(g cat ·h), provided complete conversion of methanol to syngas with a total H 2 and CO content of ~60 vol. % and syngas productivity of ~85 L(H 2 +CO)/(g cat ·h).
