Wheels within Wheels: On Nietzsche’s Enlightenment Turn
Abstract This article engages Domenico Losurdo’s 2002 tome, Nietzsche, the Aristocratic Rebel: Intellectual Biography and Critical Balance Sheet , whose English translation appeared in 2019. The article focuses on Losurdo’s remarks about Nietzsche’s longest work, Human, All too Human , paying particular attention to Losurdo’s treatment of the themes of the Enlightenment, German nationalism, revolution, socialism, antisemitism, war, peace, and slavery. It underlines the many ways in which the growing English- language scholarship on this lesser known work by Nietzsche can benefit from Losurdo’s interpretations.
