A Study on AI Experience and Acceptance Gap between Webtoon Artists and Users: Focusing on In-Depth Interviews
This study aims to explore the acceptance gap between webtoon creators and users regarding AI-generated webtoons amidst the widespread adoption of AI technology and to propose strategies for bridging this divide. To achieve this, in-depth interviews were conducted with participants from both groups, focusing on their perceptions and attitudes toward AI webtoons. The analysis revealed distinct and contrasting perspectives.Webtoon creators predominantly expressed negative reactions to AI webtoons, raising concerns about the potential impact of AI on their creative processes and job security. In contrast, webtoon users exhibited generally positive attitudes, emphasizing AI's potential to enhance content creation and improve user experience.Nevertheless, even among users, negative sentiments surfaced when considering AI integration within their own professional domains. Both groups shared common apprehensions, including fears of job displacement, heightened anxiety over employment instability, and uncertainty about AI's broader societal implications.Based on these findings, the study proposes strategies to support webtoon creators in adopting a more constructive perception of AI as an innovative tool.By addressing their concerns and emphasizing AI's capacity to enhance creativity and streamline workflows, these measures aim to foster greater acceptance and proactive utilization of AI technologies within the webtoon industry. This research provides valuable insights into overcoming resistance to AI, paving the way for a more collaborative and forward-thinking approach to its integration.
