FEMTOSECOND LASER FABRICATION OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE ANTIBACTERIAL MICRO-NANOSTRUCTURES ON TITANIUM ALLOY
Antibacterial titanium alloy surface is a critical solution to avoid bacterial infection and adhesion of implants. In this work, the femtosecond laser direct writing technology was employed to fabricate microstructures on titanium surfaces, which can inhibit the proliferation of bacteria. The formation of titanium oxide phases on the modified surface was identified by using energy-dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometer. The wettability of the treated surface showed super-hydrophobic property. In vitro experiments were used to compare the adhesion and growth behavior of Staphylococcus aureus on the original and modified surfaces. Results indicated that this work can effectively improve the antibacterial property of titanium alloy surface. The antibacterial efficiency mainly depends on the distribution density of microstructures and the composition of the oxide layer. This work provides a reference for the practical application of surface modification technology.
