Evaluation of PhytoGen Cotton Varieties in Root-Knot Nematode-Infested Fields in Plant Breeding Unit, Alabama, 2024
Root-knot nematodes ( Meloidogyne incognita) pose a significant threat to cotton productivity, causing yield loss and reduced plant vigor. This study assessed 10 PhytoGen cotton varieties under nematode-infested conditions in the Plant Breeding Unit, AL, in 2024 using a randomized complete block design. Plant stand count, height, biomass fresh weight, nematode number, and seed cotton yield were assessed. Findings from these trials will help U.S. cotton growers in selecting nematode-resistant, high-yielding varieties for sustainable cotton production in infested fields.
