Clinical Study on the Treatment of Insomnia of Phlegm Fire Disturbing Heart Syndrome with Dong’s Qi Point Combined with Huanglian Wendan Decoction

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of acupuncture at Dong’s odd point combined with Huanglian Wendan decoction on insomnia of phlegm fire disturbing heart syndrome. Methods: From November 2020 to December 2021, 90 patients with insomnia of phlegm fire disturbance syndrome were selected and diagnosed in our outpatient department. They were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group, with 45 patients in each group. The patients in the control group were treated with Dong’s Qi point acupuncture. The observation group was treated with Huanglian Wendan Decoction plus or minus oral administration on the basis of the control group. The changes of sleep quality, TCM symptoms, neurotransmitters and serum melatonin in the two groups were monitored before and after treatment, and the therapeutic effects and differences between the two groups were analyzed. Results: (1) After treatment, the scores of falling asleep time, sleep time, sleep quality, sleep efficiency, sleep disorder and daytime function in the two groups were significantly lower than those before treatment (P<0.05), and the scores of patients in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05); (2) The improvement of TCM symptoms in both groups was improved (P<0.05), and the observation group was significantly better than the control group (P<0.05); (3) After treatment, the levels of neurotransmitter 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and melatonin (MT) in the two groups were higher than before (P<0.05), and the levels in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05); (4) After treatment, the total clinical effective rate of the two groups was 91.11% in the observation group and 75.56% in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: Dong’s odd point acupuncture combined with Huanglian Wendan Decoction has a good clinical effect on insomnia patients with phlegm fire disturbing heart syndrome, and can also improve the symptoms of patients with traditional Chinese medicine and the level of neurotransmitters and hormones in patients.
