Slide Analysis Method for Editing Lecture Materials based on Hierarchical Structures of Subject Terminologies

Research suggests that using PowerPoint, particularly slides featuring bullet points, elicits positive responses from students and is widely accepted in lectures globally. Archiving slides on digital platforms, such as SlideShare, allows for their reuse and analysis. However, the high costs associated with slide creation have led many Japanese higher education institutions to favor chalkboard-based teaching, resulting in insufficient lecture archiving. To address this issue, the consideration of slide automation services has emerged, although concerns regarding potential errors in generated slides persist. Therefore, there’s a need for systems supporting slide editing stages. This study proposes a system designed to detect and prompt edits for errors in slide content, aiming to reduce the burden of slide creation for educators and facilitate lecture slide archiving. The system utilizes subject terminologies as normative models to detect editing points, considering the parallel and hierarchical relationships among terms.
