Real-time Control of Hybrid Energy Storage System for Power Volatility Smoothing in Offshore Wind Farms
During the grid integration process of offshore wind power farms, the uncertainty and volatility of offshore wind power pose significant challenges to the stability of the grid. This paper focuses on a method for offshore wind power based on power fluctuation filtering and energy storage. First, a dynamic coefficient first-order low-pass filtering (FLF) algorithm is designed to smooth the original wind power based on the fluctuation requirements of different time scales. Then, a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) composed of dual batteries and supercapacitors is designed to absorb the excess wind power obtained from the previous FLF algorithm. Based on the real-time consideration of the state of charge (SOC) of the power units, the HESS solution can prevent the units from overcharging. The proposed solution is evaluated through simulation experiments and the numerical results confirmed that the proposed solution can not only stabilize the wind power output but also minimizes the output of the energy storage system.
