Long-Distance Gesture Recognition for Interactive Communication
Feelings of mattering is important to everyone, especially the elderly and can motivate them to live a healthy life. Without this, elderly may feel like they are a burden on society. Therefore, we advocate a concept that requires the elderly to simply complete the robot's needs, thereby increasing the elderly's feeling of being valued. A robot's daily need is electricity. In order to meet this demand, the elderly need to guide the robot to the charging station to charge the robot. This guidance requires the robot to be able to understand human gestures from a distance. In this article, we introduced a conditional gesture recognition model to understand whether the user asked the robot to go there or come here or stop. We installed a camera on the top of a mobile balloon robot and used it to collect video data from 5 college students. Through experiments, the meaning of gestures can be successfully differentiated using a conditional approach, even for “come here” and “go there” gestures with the similar pattern.
