Pórticos e galerias no Gonzaga, Santos/SP: arquitetura moderna, mobilidade ativa, produção imobiliária e legislação urbanística
This work deals with the articulated use of porticoes and arcades in Santos/SP, which constituted an active mobility system in the Gonzaga neighborhood, a sub-center of the seafront, during the 20th century. Based on a bibliographical review, buildings equipped with these architectural types were identified and studied, seeking to assess the extent to which their promoters and urban law guaranteed urban vitality and promoted active mobility. Two periods of development of this system were identified: between 1930 and 1946, when hotels and casinos were equipped with porticoes, and until the 1980s, with the verticalization of the neighborhood with the construction of condominiums with free ground floors equipped with commercial arcades, which produced a fabric permeable urban area, which today gives the neighborhood its identity. There was a lack of specific rules for qualifying urban design, but a recent standard began to protect gallery spaces, which suffer from obstructions, putting the free movement of pedestrians at risk.
