Decentralised care: a promising strategy in managing Ebola outbreaks
Recurrent outbreaks of the Ebola virus disease (EVD) pose substantial threats to Africa's health systems. Despite advancements such as vaccines and therapeutics, successful outbreak containment remains heavily reliant on early detection, diagnosis, and isolation of cases.1 Historically, Ebola outbreaks were relatively limited in the number of cases and geographical spread. However, the epidemiological pattern of the disease has evolved substantially over the past decade, with the 2014–15 west Africa outbreak marking a milestone in the history of the disease.
