ADVANCEMENT OF TREATMENT AND PREVENTION STRATEGIES FOR RADIATION-INDUCED CYSTITIS

The presented review of the literature is devoted to the analysis of methods of treatment and prevention of radiation cystitis. Radiation cystitis (RC) is a type of painful bladder syndrome (PBS), which dramatically affects the quality of life of patients, reduces social adaptation, and leads to disability. In addition to the impact on the physical component of the patient, there is also psycho-emotional stress, which leads to suicidal moments, according to some data (11%). Our understanding of the etiology and pathophysiology is growing, altered permeability of the damaged urothelium, sensitized nerves on the bladder wall, and chronic or intermittent sensory pain with imprecise location, as well as pathological angiogenesis, fibrosis are obstacles to better diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this study was to summarize all the information on RC research, thus contributing to the progress of RC in aspects of diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and prognosis.
