Uma nova abordagem no tratamento da insuficiência venosa grave: o impacto do uso das ondas de choque extracorpóreas - relato de caso

Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a prevalent condition that can lead to venous ulcers, which in severe cases are associated with an increased risk of amputation. Conventional treatments have shown limited efficacy, necessitating innovative approaches. Focal extracorporeal shockwaves (f-ESW) have been proven beneficial in musculoskeletal and cardiovascular conditions and have recently been investigated for potential use in CVD and peripheral arterial disease (PAD). We report the effect of f-ESW in treating vascular insufficiency in an 80-year-old woman who underwent left transfemoral amputation due to osteomyelitis following a venous ulcer in 2022. Upon initial evaluation, the patient exhibited signs of reduced peripheral perfusion and significant edema in the contralateral limb, with signs indicating an increased risk of amputation. After three sessions of f-ESW, we observed reduced erythema and edema, improved perfusion, and increased local temperature. Thus, f-ESW may represent a promising therapeutic option for patients with severe CVD, offering significant benefits in amputation prevention and management of severe CVD.
