Cholera Treatment Recommendations from Foreigners in the Ottoman Empire in Light of Archival Documents
The Ottoman State on the one hand has taken hygienic measures to prevent the spread of the disease and on the other hand has endeavored to treat the cholera patients, as component of the struggle against cholera. It is well known that the Ottoman State has invited foreign scientists to participate in cholera struggle, and has sent its scientists to important science and research centers abroad to learn new scientific developments and to lead the cholera struggle in the country. According to some documents we found in the Ottoman Archives, some citizens from abroad suggested various cholera treatments to the Ottoman state. This study will examine the contributions of these proposals to the cholera struggle of the Ottoman State and the international relations of the Ottoman State with respect to health in this context.
