Treatment of nonspecific cervicitis associated with cervical dysplasia: multicenter observational study results

Background: mainly, cervical inflammatory diseases have chronic asymptomatic nature. Typically, chronic cervicitis is associated with other cervical diseases and inflammatory vaginal conditions Aim: to evaluate tolerability and effect of a oral enzyme combination (OEC) on outcomes of antibacterial therapy for chronic nonspecific cervicitis. Materials and Methods: an open prospective multicenter observational two-phase study included 1450 subjects aged 18–45 years who had been diagnosed with nonspecific cervicitis associated with cervical ectopia (ICD-10 codes: N72 and N86). The initial phase of the investigation involved 1350 individuals who received OEC along with a consistent regimen of both local empirical and systemic etiotropic antibacterial therapy–main group (MG). In the second phase, a comparison group (CG, n=100) received solely antibacterial treatment following a similar regimen as the MG in the initial phase. During a follow-up (28±2 days), the subjects underwent three scheduled visits. Meanwhile, they experienced a comprehensive evaluation including complaint reporting, examinations, microscopic analysis, cytological testing, bacteriological investigation of cervical discharge, and colposcopy. As for the MG, adherence to OEC was also assessed according to the Likert scale. Results: OEC, as part of a comprehensive therapy for non-specific cervicitis associated with cervical ectopia, significantly reduces duration and intensity of symptoms and complaints, as well as it contributes to restoration of microbiocenosis. In addition, according to cytological and colposcopy studies, the OEC reduces the frequency of detecting criteria for an inflammatory process Physicians were satisfied with a clinical effect of the OEC in 100% or 97,77% of cases (average score — 4,80±0,46); its tolerability satisfied them in 98,97% of cases (average score — 4,84±0,43). Conclusion: the study findings suggest that the OEC may be recommended in the context of comprehensive therapy for combined cervical lesions to eliminate inflammation and to reduce dysplastic manifestations KEYWORDS: chronic cervicitis, cervical dysplasia, CIN, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, erosion, oral enzyme combinations, treatment satisfaction.
