A Semiotics-Based Visual Reconstruction Method for Intangible Cultural Heritage Images: A Case Study of China's Hainan <Geng Lu Bu>
Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) encompasses non-material intellectual properties such as folk customs, beliefs, and traditional knowledge that hold significant value for the cultural inheritance of a region. In an era dominated by visual culture, technological advancements have diversified the methods of ICH preservation, making visual representation an essential medium for constructing and disseminating ICH.This paper takes China's intangible cultural heritage <Geng Lu Bu> as a case study to explore innovative approaches for its visual reconstruction, aiming to sustain its cultural essence and enhance cross-cultural communication. This research adopts a combination of literature review and survey to analyze the current state of ICH visualization studies in China and Korea and the achievements in representing <Geng Lu Bu> through visual symbols.Guided by theories of visual reconstruction and semiotics, the study investigates how the traditional textual symbols in <Geng Lu Bu> can be transformed into visual symbols understood cross-culturally, thereby breaking down linguistic and communicative barriers.By extracting textual symbols and conducting thematic analysis, the author designs eight thematic modules and proposes a method to construct a virtual image platform for <Geng Lu Bu> using virtual engine technologies. The research finds that the visual reconstruction method based on semiotics can effectively overcome the linguistic barriers of traditional textual symbols. With the support of virtual reality (VR) technology, these symbols are transformed into visual symbols that can be understood cross-culturally, thereby promoting the globalized and three-dimensional dissemination of ICH.
