The Impact of Local Attachment of Local Residents on the Perception, Attitudes, and Residents' Participation Behavior of Local Sports Competitions

This study examines the influence of residents' attachment to their community on their perception of the impacts of local sports events, their attitudes toward such events, and their behavioral participation. The purpose is to provide valuable academic data that can guide the successful attraction of sports events, encouraging voluntary support and active involvement from residents. To achieve this objective, a survey was conducted in September 2024 involving 500 residents of Jeju Island, where the sports event in question was held. The findings reveal that residents with a stronger attachment to their region tend to perceive the impacts of sports events hosted in their area more positively. This positive perception fosters a supportive and welcoming attitude toward hosting sports events, subsequently leading to active participation behaviors among residents. In light of these findings, it becomes evident that fostering a sense of belonging and attachment within the local community is a critical factor in ensuring the success of sports event hosting.Continuous efforts, such as community campaigns to strengthen residents' pride in their region and connection to it, are essential.Such initiatives not only enhance local support for sports events but also contribute to the community's long-term social cohesion and identity.
