Harmonic Mitigation Using Active and Passive Filters
With the growing trend in usage of electric vehicles (EVs), potential harmonic distortion that could be caused by nonlinear EV battery charging are being looked at closely as they would affect operation and functionality of the power grid. In this study, the implication of active and passive filter for harmonic distortion reduction, in EV battery charging system is presented. Active filters using real-time power electronics and control algorithms achieve up to $\mathbf{9 2 \%}$ THD suppression, whereas passive filters provide a low-cost option with up to $85 \%$ reduction in THD. The results show that both types of filters are effective in enhancing the power quality. This work offers practical guidelines on filter design, optimization, and performance assessment to enable effective and green EV charging infrastructure
