High-Gain Switched-Capacitor based Novel DC-DC Converter for Renewable Energy Applications

The increased adoption of renewable energy has driven research for converters that offer reliable way to integrate low-voltage dc input from photovoltaic (PV) and fuel cell based systems. In this context, a basic voltage lift-cell and a Switched Capacitor (SC) network are integrated in this study to present a non-isolated converter architecture. This integration results in a single-switch, single-inductor structure with reduced component count, high conversion ratio, and reduced stress across semiconductor devices. The novel converter is analyzed in continuous (CCM) and discontinuous (DCM) conduction modes and simulation results are presented using MATLAB/Simulink software with 48 V input voltage, $75 \%$ duty cycle, and switching frequency of 75 kHz. An analytical efficiency analysis along with simulation using PLECS software is presented. A detailed comparison study reveals that the enhanced voltage gain and decreased voltage stresses with reduced component count are significant features of the proposed converter. Detailed experimental findings are ultimately gathered to support the workability of the novel dc-dc converter.
