Research On the Current Situation and Awareness Of English Vocabulary Learning Among First-Year Non-English Major Students – A Case Study At A Private University In Vietnam
Learning a language inherently involves the acquisition of the language’s vocabulary. However, developing an extensive vocabulary base is a significant challenge that many language learners struggle with. This study was conducted to assess the current situation and awareness of English vocabulary learning among first-year non-English major students at Thanh Do University. A cross-sectional descriptive study conducted with 347 students revealed that, while most students recognize the vital role of vocabulary in language development, they face challenges in retaining and applying vocabulary in practical contexts. The primary barriers include a lack of motivation, limited study time, and ineffective learning methods. Consequently, the study proposes practical solutions such as diversifying teaching methods, strengthening practice environments, and providing modern learning materials to enhance students' learning effectiveness and ability to apply vocabulary.
