AN EXAMINATION OF THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION AND THE MALADAPTIVE UTILIZATION OF ESCAPE-AVOIDANCE COPING STRATEGIES AMONG OLDER ADOLESCENTS
Objective. The article presents the results of a study devoted to the problem of the "escape-avoidance" coping strategy in older adolescents. Analysis of the materials obtained showed that the presence and severity of depression symptoms in adolescents are directly related to their maladaptive use of the "escape-avoidance" coping strategy. Materials and Methods. A voluntary informed study was conducted among a group of respondents (n=43) aged 16-17 years (9th and 10th grade students), including the questionnaire "Methods of coping behavior" (Lazarus, Folkman, 1984) and the questionnaire "A. T. Beck Depression Scale" (version for adolescents). The study was carried out based on Barnaul Secondary School No 126 in Barnaul in the period from March 2024 to November 2024. Results. The presence and severity of depressive symptoms in adolescents are directly related to the maladaptive use of the escape-avoidance coping strategy, which creates the preconditions for the prevention of depressive disorders through psychotherapy aimed at reducing avoidance.
