Structure of the semantic space of verbal vocabulary in K. Vonnegut’s “Cat’s Cradle” (based on the novel in English)
The aim of this study is to determine the structure of the semantic space of verbal vocabulary in Kurt Vonnegut’s dystopian novel “Cat’s Cradle” (in English) using quantitative methods of linguistic research. Within the framework of the semantic analysis, a comprehensive database was created, enabling the implementation of correlation and cluster analyses. During these analyses, the key parameters of the semantic space were also analyzed to obtain the most explicit conclusions about the relevance of the features included in the feature space of the work under study. The scientific novelty of the research lies in identifying the relevant features of the verbal vocabulary space based on the determination of key parameters, the use of quantitative methodology, and the integration of results to establish relevant relationships within the feature space. As a result of the research, the structure of the semantic space of the novel “Cat’s Cradle” was examined, and the key parameters were determined, allowing for the establishment of integrally-marked and differentially-marked relevant features of verbal units.
