A application of soft-collinear effective field theory in jet physics
In this work, we review the application of soft-collinear effective theory (SCET) in jet physics, emphasizing its role in understanding jet dynamics and multi-scale problems. We begin by demonstrating how SCET effectively separates contributions from different energy scales, thereby addressing divergences caused by large logarithms and enabling the resummation of all-order perturbative corrections. We then discuss the factorization theorem for the first infrared-safe jet observable, the Sterman-Weinberg jet cross section. This factorization systematically handles the contributions from different scales and resumes the non-global logarithms (NGLs) appearing in jet cross sections. Additionally, we examine the mechanism for the generation of super-leading logarithms (SLLs) in hadronic collisions, emphasizing their importance in precision perturbative calculations, particularly in dijet production at hadron colliders. Finally, we discuss the resummation of recoil-free jet azimuthal correlations, illustrating how proper jet algorithm definitions can enhance the accuracy of perturbative predictions and reduce theoretical uncertainties.
