LA NOTION DE DÉMOCRATIE EN ALGÉRIE ENTRE LANGUES ET DISCOURS DE PRESSE
This paper is based on a comparative approach addressing the relationship between language(s)-politics through the Algerian print media, and highlights the following issue: which one, Arabic or French, better conveys the values of democracy? This linguistic dichotomy, which is supposed to oppose two conceptions of democracy, proved to fall short of expectations as regards the results of the analysis. Indeed, the linguistic factor and, even less, the economic factor (private-public) have nothing to do with the expression of democracy. It is another factor, or rather another actor, that comes into play: it is the enunciating authority that uses such a notion according to the goodwill of the political power to which it owes allegiance or according to the political ideology to which it adheres.
