Exploring Determinants of Environmentally Responsible Behavior in a Megaproject: The Influence of Institutional Norms and Contractors’ Perception

Along with its increasing concerns about the environmental issues, environmentally responsible behavior (ERB) during the construction of megaproject becomes critical. It is fundamental to understand the significant determinants of ERB, which can facilitate the implementation of appropriate policies for environmental management. Thus, this study develops a Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework based on Institutional Theory (IT) and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to investigate the social, industrial, and psychological factors of ERB. Data were collected through a questionnaire, and 256 responses were analyzed through PLS-SEM. The research results show that the combined effect of institutional pressure and contractor perception has a significant positive impact on ERB. These findings contribute to the literature on the behavior study in project management and provide suggestions for managing contractors and improving environmental performance.
