Digital Technology Innovation in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction: A Patent-Based Analysis

Digitalization has become the driving force to promote the high-quality development of the construction industry. Various kinds of digital technologies have been employed in architecture, engineering, and construction. In this study, we collect data of the authorized patents of digital construction-related inventions from the IncoPat database. By analyzing the time of publication, IPC classification number, and background of applicants, results illustrate the differences in the number and application advantages of digital innovation patents in different years, regions, enterprises, institutions, and universities. Actively grasping the relevant policies and use of patent cooperation related to digital construction will help to formulate the future direction of digital innovation in architecture, engineering, and construction.
