Ensuring the Necessary Level of Reliability for Electronic Means in I&C Systems

The paper provides a comprehensive analysis of reliability indicators for electronic means (equipment), integrating findings from original research and recent scientific publications. It explores the assessment of these indicators during the design phase, emphasizing predictive methods to achieve and validate reliability requirements. Additionally, it underscores the importance of continuous monitoring throughout the operational life of the equipment, ensuring long-term functionality and safety under varying conditions. The integration of predictive modeling and reliability analysis in the design stage lays a foundation for robust system performance. Key areas discussed include the development and implementation of advanced metrological and diagnostic systems. These systems support efficient maintenance by enabling early fault detection, precise condition monitoring, and targeted repairs, thereby minimizing downtime and preventing failures. Such approaches are crucial for maintaining operational reliability and extending the lifespan of equipment. Particular attention is given to reliability management in critical infrastructure systems, especially the instrumentation and control systems in nuclear power plants. These systems are subject to stringent regulatory requirements that mandate the preservation of operating conditions under both normal operation and accident conditions. The study explores the challenges of achieving high reliability and the vital role of advanced diagnostics and condition-based maintenance strategies in addressing these challenges. Future areas highlighted in the paper stress the adoption of lifecycle-based reliability management practices. These involve combining robust design processes with ongoing condition assessments, predictive maintenance, and systematic repairs. By addressing emerging trends in reliability engineering, the study advocates leveraging innovative technologies, such as real-time monitoring tools and automated diagnostic systems, to optimize maintenance schedules, reduce outage durations, and enhance system reliability. The dual focus on achieving and sustaining reliability ensures the consistent performance and safety of electronic means in digital instrumentation and control systems of critical infrastructure, particularly at nuclear power plants.
