A Cascaded Power Frequency Overvoltage During Joint Alternating Current Fault Ride-Though at Sending End Among Islanding Wind Farms and their Voltage Source Converter-Based High Voltage Direct Current Integration Systems via Simulation
In this paper, a cascaded power frequency overvoltage is reported during joint alternating current (AC) fault ride-though among islanding wind farms and the Voltage Source Converter-Based High Voltage Direct Current (VSC-HVDC) integration systems via simulation. It is found that the wind power is divided into two different batches of overvoltage off-grid at two adjacent moments, and the corresponding mechanism has been found. Then, the cascaded mechanism and explanation has been verified by several elaborate validations. Also, the technical measure has been proposed to avoid such cascaded power frequency overvoltage, which includes adopting VSC-HVDC with better overcurrent capacity, and installing synchronous condenser in islanding wind farms. Finally, these technical measures have been fully validated by numerical illustrations.
