Application of Gird-forming STATCOM with Energy Storage Based on Transient Damping
Distributed generation (DG) plays a crucial role in the large-scale utilization of renewable energy. However, the integration of variable energy sources like wind and solar into the grid has led to challenges such as frequency instability, voltage quality issues, and power fluctuations. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a control strategy for Grid-forming Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) based on transient damping, which adopts a Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control strategy. This approach not only compensates for reactive power but also provides effective support for frequency drops in the system. By introducing transient damping control, the active power output from the battery is reduced, thereby lowering the required battery capacity. Furthermore, simulations on the Matlab/Simulink platform validate the effectiveness of this strategy, demonstrating its solid theoretical foundation and practical application value.
