Rethinking Soil Diagnostics: Why IoT-Based Soil Sensors are Essential for the Future of Precision Agriculture
The agricultural sector is under pressure to increase productivity to sustainably meet the global demand for food. Precision agriculture, depending on real-time data from the soil, offers an opportunity to optimize resource use and enhance crop yields. Disposable test kits, MOET, chemical analysis, and XRF traditional testing methods for soils are inefficient in terms of cost, environmental impact, and scalability. This review has brought out some of the benefits that can be accrued when soil diagnostics rely on the loT technologies, which will include real-time monitoring, high accuracy, and sustainability. The paper further talks about future research directions in topics involving AI integration and energy-efficient systems for loT.
