Experience in the use of an In-House Mathematical Model for Short-Term Hydrothermal Economic Dispatch in Peru

This article describes the application of an in-house mathematical model to solve the Short-Term Hydrothermal Economic Dispatch problem in Peru. The model includes specific constraints and utilizes the Generalized Benders Decomposition (GBD) technique to obtain an optimal solution. The experience encompasses a performance comparison between the model and commercial software, the operation of high variable-cost thermal plants, the implementation of new constraints, and compilation on cloud servers (Intel or AMD). The constraints comply with national regulations and relate to contingency security (N-1 criterion), combined cycle operation modes, and spinning reserve for primary and secondary frequency regulation.
