Alternative CusTomade Ordering System Using Aveva Edge

The concept of Industry 4.0 was originally introduced in Germany in the year of 2011. To demonstrate the feasibility of applying Industry 4.0 to a beverage manufacturing line in Malaysia, a CusTomade Manufacturing Line was developed with the One Manufacturing Individualised Solution (OMIS) manufacturing concept. This manufacturing line relies on the default cloud ordering system for customers to send their customised orders to the manufacturing line. However, the existing cloud ordering system is often not reliable. Hence, when the cloud ordering system is down, the customer will not be able to send their order to the CusTomade Manufacturing Line to manufacture the required customised product. Furthermore, the default cloud ordering system is hosted on a limited free subscription and will become inaccessible once the free usage hours are reached. Consequently, this paper presents an alternative localised CusTomade Graphical User Interface (GUI) ordering system that is developed as a solution to the aforementioned problem encountered in the default ordering System. The developed solution uses the Aveva Edge SCADA software, Node-Red, MySQL Database, VB Scripts and File Transfer Protocol (FTP) for this CusTomade Manufacturing Line. The results show that the developed alternative localised CusTomade GUI ordering system performs more reliable as compared to the existing default ordering system.
