Engineering in Service of the Population with Disabilities: The Right to Play
This paper explores the adaptation of toys for children with disabilities, emphasizing the role that engineering can play in enhancing the quality of life and ensuring the right to play for this population. Drawing on the experiences of TecnoInclusion UCR in Costa Rica, we show how engineering design principles can be applied to create low-cost, effective adaptations, addressing a critical need for children with disabilities. This work demonstrates the diverse potential of engineering in creating accessible, low-cost solutions, significantly improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusivity in play.
