A Scalable and Low Data Loss Asynchronous Readout Circuit for SPAD Arrays
The data loss caused by photon event stacking in asynchronous readout has become an urgent problem to be solved. A scalable asynchronous readout circuit for SPAD arrays with column-shared TDC is proposed, which is based on the addresses and timestamps of SPAD pixels, without relying on arbiters. It is approximately assumed that there is the same time information of pixels when multiple pixels respond simultaneously to photon stacking. At the cost of increasing a small amount of data processing, theoretically achieving zero loss of valid data during readout process. And the design was simulated on FPGA to verify the correctness of the functionality.
