An Inductor less LNA for high gain and low noise figure dedicated for future wireless application

This research paper presents a cutting-edge analysis and design approach for a wideband low-noise amplifier (LNA) without an inductor that incorporates a technique to reduce noise., tailored to address the unique challenges posed by 5G and beyond future wireless application. The proposed LNA leverages the benefits of inductor less architecture to meet the stringent high-frequency requirements of 5G and 6G, while the noise cancellation technique effectively mitigates noise sources, ensuring superior signal-to-noise ratios and overall performance. The proposed Low-Noise Amplifier (LNFA) was simulated for 0.18µm CMOS in the Cadence Virtuoso. Throughout the simulations, the LNA's performance was evaluated over a frequency spectrum spanning from 3 -13 GHz (S & Ku Band). At a specific frequency of 5.2 GHz, the Forward gain (S<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">21</inf>) is measured to be 18.1 dB, Input return loss (S<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">11</inf>) of -15.1 dB. The LNA's 3-dB bandwidth spanned from 3.5-5.8 GHz, and it exhibited a minimum noise figure (NF) of 1.01 dB, accompanied by an input third-order intercept point (IIP3) of -9.3 dBm. In terms of power consumption, the proposed LNA operated at 3.5 mW with a supply voltage of 1.8V. Through comprehensive theoretical analysis and simulations, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed design in achieving exceptional noise figure, high gain, and wide bandwidth, positioning it as a promising solution for the communication demands of 5G and the anticipated ultra-high frequencies of 6G technology.
