Spatial Mapping of Paddy Fields in South Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi Using Gis and Remote Sensing Data
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a source of staple food for the majority of the Indonesian Population, an important commodity to maintain food security. The area of paddy fields in Tumpaan District, South Minahasa Regency was 310 ha in 2018 (BPS South Minahasa 2018) and was 229 .83 Ha in 2023 (South Minahasa Agricultural Office). The area of paddy fields in Tumpaan District has decreased in the last 5 years. Monitoring changes in land cover in the peri-urban areas of Manado City needs to be carried out to identify environmental changes and their causes for sustainable management of natural resources, especially to ensure food security for the community. This research aims to map the area of paddy rice fields in Tumpaan District during the period of 5 years using Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing technology. Satellite imagery data from 2018 and 2023 are used in this research. Interpretation of satellite images uses on- screen visual analysis with ArcGIS 10.8 software. The research results show that the area of paddy fields in 2018 was 210.1 Ha and the area of paddy fields in 2023 was 137.27 Ha. 3. In a period of 5 years, there was a decrease in the area of paddy fields in Tumpaan District by 72.83 Ha (from 210.1 Ha in 2018 to 137.27 Ha in 2023). The decrease in the area of paddy fields occurred due to changes in land cover from paddy fields to other agricultural land such as horticulture and secondary crops (palawija).
