Internet-Based 3D Volumes with Signed Distance Fields: Establishing a WebGL Rendering Infrastructure
Creating photo-like visuals in real-time is one of the core objectives of computer graphics, and since the field's founding more than 60 years ago, it has worked to produce increasingly realistic graphics. This goal has led to more potent rendering algorithms and graphics technology. The need for online rendering has grown due to enhanced GPU speed and browser processing power, which has made 3D graphics more interactive, accessible, and collaborative. Thanks to WebGL technology, complex three-dimensional computer graphics may be drawn, shown, and interacted with within web browsers. Typically, surface rendering techniques visualize boundary representation descriptions of 3D objects. Since polygonal meshes constitute the foundation of the majority of popular 3D model formats, simple real-time rendering of polygon models is made possible by raster render algorithms implemented in graphics-accelerating hardware. In this work, we research, explore, and develop a web-based 3D platform for real-time modeling and rendering that enables an interactive WebGL display of 3D models based on the ray marching algorithm. We introduce an online approach to using WebGL, which is based on Three.js (JavaScript), to visualize a signed distance field-based model using a ray marching algorithm in a collaborative manner.
