Building Energy Management System for the Demand Response of a Residential Green Building Based on Optimization Technique
To prevent overloading on the electric power grid, residential building energy management systems are becoming crucial to reduce load demand. It is important to use Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) in a way that allows residential consumers to participate in off-peak and peak hours to balance the electric power grid. This paper focuses on the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) of residential green buildings and proposes an optimization-based energy man-agement technique to control and manage electricity consumption in residential green buildings. The proposed Energy Management Controller helps in reducing the cost of electricity, reducing the Peak to Average Ratio (PAR) and reducing carbon emissions. The proposed energy management controller is developed by considering demand response (DR) assisted continuous and variable load in energy storage systems (ESS), photovoltaic (PV), smart grids (SG) and electric vehicles (EV). The results conclude that after adopting the proposed system, the electricity cost is reduced by 29.54%, PAR is reduced by 38% and carbon emission reduce by 30%.
