Efficient Solar-Powered Boost Converters: A Solution for Two-Wheeler EV Charging

With the increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide, there is a corresponding rise in electrical load demand, necessitating sustainable transportation solutions. This paper addresses this need by proposing an alternative method for EV charging. Specifically, a solar-powered boost converter with a capacity of 750 watts is designed for charging two-wheelers. The parameters of the boost converter are optimized to elevate the solar voltage (24 V) to the specified charging voltage of the vehicle (36 V), while simultaneously regulating current levels. The achieved efficiency surpasses 92%, comparable to that of battery-powered boost converters. A comparative analysis of input/output voltage and current with battery-operated boost converters validates the efficacy of the proposed system. Additionally, during transients, there are no overshoots in input and output current and voltages of the designed converter.
