Application of Normalized Error PI Controller to Higher Order DC-DC Converters
Despite the obvious challenges in control and maintenance of a higher order DC-DC converter, and the obvious pitfall of the efficiency of a higher order DC- DC converter there is a high applicability of these systems. This is owed to the high voltage gain, continuous source current, decreased voltage stress and reduced voltage ripple. PID (Proportional integral and derivative) method of control is a regulating function which seeks to regulate system specific deviations and maintain in-variance in output state. The normalised error- based PI control delays the process of saturation by removing the linear dependence of the error on the regulating function has been proposed in [1]. This method has proven to be effective for the second order buck-type DC-DC converter. This study extends the application of the proposed tuning algorithm for higher order DC-DC converters and conducts a relative stability analysis. The results have shown that the phase margin of the system has improved, and the gain crossover frequency has reduced with the application of the normalised error based PI controller. Further, an Operational amplifier circuit has been designed for an improved gain zeta converter, and the noise analysis of the operational amplifier has been performed comparing the conventional PI control method and the normalised error based method. The tools that have been used for this research paper are MATLAB SIMULINK and LT-SPICE.
