Development of Photovoltaic Systems for Indigenous Communities in Amazonia
This study presents the development of a standalone photovoltaic system and maintenance plan to support the health center, school, high school, and telecommunications systems in the Amazonian community of Wasakentsa, Morona Santiago, Ecuador. This initiative addresses the lack of a reliable power source in this remote, isolated area. After a comprehensive analysis of energy needs, a photovoltaic system with solar panels, inverters, and batteries was implemented to provide a steady supply of renewable energy. A systematic maintenance plan was also developed, including preventive and corrective guidelines, along with a training program for community members. As a result, the health center now operates more efficiently, telecommunications have improved connectivity, and the educational system has enhanced access to essential resources.
