Oceanographic Aspects in Marine Cadastre

Oceanographic aspects play a crucial role in compiling an effective marine cadastre. This research examines how oceanographic data is utilized to map the potential and constraints of marine space utilization. An in-depth analysis reveals that integrating oceanographic data into marine cadastres enhances accuracy in spatial planning, disaster mitigation, and the sustainable management of marine resources. In the context of Jakarta Coastal Bay (Teluk Jakarta), which features numerous small islands, 13 river estuaries, and a coastline utilized for marine tourism, military activities, fishing ports, passenger terminals, and navigation routes, the role of marine cadastre is particularly vital. This framework supports the management of various activities, including fishing and aquaculture, ensuring a balanced and sustainable approach to resource use. However, challenges persist, including limited data availability, the complexity of oceanographic processes, and insufficient institutional capacity. Despite these hurdles, the potential benefits of integration are significant. Sediment transport, a dynamic process influenced by various oceanographic parameters, plays a vital role in shaping beach morphology, seabed structure, and coastal ecosystems. Key oceanographic parameters affecting sediment transport include waves, currents, tides, sediment characteristics, and bathymetry. This ongoing process continuously alters the morphology of the seabed and has substantial implications for marine space management, particularly along coastlines. This research analyses the role of sediment transport as an essential oceanographic aspect in developing a Marine Cadastral Model, focusing on the changes over time caused by sediment transport dynamics. By understanding these interactions, effective management strategies can be formulated to address the challenges faced in marine spatial planning.
