Metamaterial Based Multiband Antenna for Vehicular Communication

This research study introduces a multiband monopole antenna design that utilizes the (MTM) loading approach, for enhance efficiency, bandwidth of the antenna. Metamaterial integration allows significant antenna size reduction and frequency downshifting, enabling operation at lower frequencies while maintaining a compact design. The proposed antenna comprises a microstrip line monopole enhanced with an E slotted MTM design with T shaped structure included inside the patch which significantly enhances the performance of the proposed antenna. The MTM unit cell includes a transmission line with patches embedded with "E" shaped slots and rectangular horizontal slots along the feedline. Symmetrically loaded on both sides of the monopole antenna the MTM enables size reduction by lowering frequencies and achieving resonances. Abstract

Fabricated on a polyamide substrate the antenna occupies a footprint of 10 × 30 mm2 and functions across five frequencies; 2.8, 3.07 3.19, 3.4 and 6.4 GHz catering to applications such as Industrial Scientific and Medical (ISM) Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) all pertinent to IoT communications. A physical prototype of the antenna is. Validated through measurements based on simulation results. The efficiency hovers close, to an estimated 96% across the spectrum.
