Technological Evolution of Medium Voltage Underground Cables
The current growth of electric power demand and the progressive increase of distributed generation requires high performance of the elements that constitute the medium voltage electrical system to achieve high efficiency in the transport of electric power. For this reason, medium voltage underground cables have had to evolve technologically over time, thus becoming products of practical installation at residential, industrial, and commercial levels and having significant importance in the distribution of electric power. The purpose of this paper is to show how the development of cable engineering has evolved, thus revealing some of the most important milestones in the history of underground cables that were a key part of technological evolution. It also discusses recent research on developing new compounds that are a viable alternative to the environment and an efficient solution in the manufacturing process.
