Measurement Range in Fringe Projection Profilometry: A Practical Case
Fringe projection profilometry is a widely adopted three-dimensional measurement technique, renowned for its ability to achieve highly accurate non-contact measurements. While extensive research has focused on various algorithms —particularly phase-shifting and Fourier analysis— there is limited documentation addressing the hardware’s limitations and their impact on measurement accuracy. This gap has resulted in a wide range of potential device configurations. To address this, we present a detailed methodology for determining the measurement range and spatial resolution as a function of the working distance. A practical case study is included, utilizing the optical specifications to calculate the maximum measurable dimensions. Our findings are experimentally validated using a phase-shifting algorithm, providing practical insights for optimizing fringe projection setups.
