Utilizing Thermal Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Technology for Precision Agriculture Monitoring of Temperature Stress in Paddy Fields
Paddy, a vital staple food crop in various Asian nations, including Malaysia, is critical in ensuring food security. The crop's health and yield are significantly impacted by its reproductive and ripening stages, making it susceptible to environmental stressors. Among these stressors, temperature is a significant abiotic factor that notably influences paddy production outcomes. Malaysia has been grappling with the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon since late 2023, which is expected to persist until mid-2024, leading to higher temperatures in the region. In response to this challenge, the study aims to utilise thermal Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology to closely monitor and detect instances of temperature stress within paddy fields. This innovative approach has the potential to facilitate more targeted and efficient management strategies to counteract the effects of temperature fluctuations on paddy crops, thereby ensuring sustained production levels in the face of climatic challenges.
