Research on Data Push Strategies in Named Data Networking for Tactical Networks

The intermittent connectivity of links and the high demand for protocol lightweight in tactical networks result in the suboptimal performance of traditional end-to-end transmission models in such networks. The characteristics of Named Data Networking (NDN), such as connectionless communication, multipath forwarding, native support for in-network caching, and asynchronous communication, offer a new perspective for tactical networks. NDN’s interest-based pull mechanism can efficiently utilize network caches, reduce redundant transmissions, and enhance the efficiency of data distribution. However, in a tactical environment, information types are diverse and complex, with different priorities among them. For high-priority information, NDN’s traditional pull mechanism may lead to tactical mission failure due to latency. Therefore, this paper proposes a tactical network information sharing model, classifies and prioritizes the tactical information transmitted within the model, and introduces two push-based mechanisms for direct data sharing of different types of tactical information. Empirical evidence has demonstrated that the two strategies proposed in this paper exhibit significant improvements over typical NDN forwarding strategies in experimental settings, with success rates that are roughly equivalent to those of the NDN pull mechanism.
